I have to admit: I complain a lot. I complain about my classes, I complain about homework, I complain about not sleeping -- heck, it's probably harder to find things that I don't complain about. But with Thanksgiving quickly approaching, I've realized that I have a lot of things that I should be thankful for.
1. Family
My family, no matter how obnoxious or strange, is what has made me who I am today. They've been there for me through thick and thin, and I can't begin to count all of the important lessons they've imparted on me through my life. My parents are pretty strict, so I complain about them a lot, but I've realized that they just want to give me all the opportunities they never had. Even though they might steal my clothes (*coughElizabethcough*) or crack overly cheesy jokes (*coughDadcough*), I wouldn't give them up for anything in the world.
2. Friends
How could I forget some of the coolest people in my life? Thanks for being there to comfort me when I freak out about grades or teaching me Chemistry three minutes before I take the test. Thanks for dealing with all of my weird quirks and habits and for always being there when I need y'all. :)
3. My Circumstances
It's pretty easy to complain about the most trivial things, like not being able to buy an expensive shirt or video game. But we all have to remember that, as cliche as it is, there are starving children in Africa (also like 80% of the world lives on less than $10 per day...) that are struggling to get food on the table every day when we're over here complaining that we didn't get that car that we've been begging our parents for ever since we got our permit. I'm thankful that I have a pretty decent life as a middle-class American girl living in a typical suburban town.
4. My talents.
Society tells us not to brag, but I say: screw it. I, just like every other human beings, have certain abilities that are better slightly than those of the average person that I'm proud(ish) of. I'm a decent writer and I can play piano well. I'm a good student and hardworking and nice. There. Done bragging.
And before I sign out, I would like to leave you with a little thought-provoking quote that I think we should all keep in mind this Thanksgiving:

Be thankful for what you have; you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never, ever have enough.
